The Harry Potter Rowling creation has magically touched the lives of people the world over. In this age of technology, it had seemed that books were taking a backseat to computers and television. Rowling brought the magic back in books with her creation of Harry Potter. It is amazing to see young children holding a book thicker than their arms, fervently reading from cover to cover. This happened when, a few years back, parents were hard-pressed to pry these same children from the television.
Back in 1990 the Harry Potter Rowling phenomenon first touched the life of the author herself. The author Joanne “Jo” Rowling, now internationally known as JK Rowling, was down on her luck when she decided to write a book while riding on a train from Manchester to London. She was living on welfare at that time and her writing a book was her way of making ends meet. She finished writing the manuscript in 1995 and was ready to be published. Unfortunately, 12 publishing companies refused to print the book she wrote. However, not easily daunted by misfortune, JK Rowling continued looking for a publisher. A small British publishing company, Bloomsbury, finally agreed to print copies of her books. This was all thanks to an 8-year old girl, Alice Newton, the daughter of the editor Barry Cunningham. Barry, who was tasked to review the first few chapters of JK Rowling’s book, gave the first chapter to her daughter. Touched by the magic of the book, she immediately asked for the next few chapters. This prompted the editor to give the go signal for the printing of Harry Potter. In the next few years that followed, the Harry Potter series gained acclaim and a wide reader base. The enchantment of the book spread world-wide, reaching millions of readers. Today, the influence of the Harry Potter series can still be observed. The love for books and an active imagination can be seen amongst kids and adults alike, inspired by the books made by JK Rowling.
This Harry Potter Rowling phenomenon not only inspired readers, but also helped other authors as well. A slew of Fantasy children’s books gained popularity, leveraging on the popularity of Harry Potter. Because readers were hungry for more after a taste of JK Rowling’s books, they pounced on other titles. The magic of reading has been instilled once more on the youth, and the adults are reintroduced to the beauty of reading that they once forgotten.
