Harry Potter Costume – What You Need to Know to Standout in a Party

by Karolina on March 1, 2011

It is probably going to be very difficult to look for a young boy or a young girl during the release of the first Harry Potter book and movie who did not like to wear a Harry Potter costume or a Hermione Ganger costume. Almost every kid in town dreamed of becoming like these two famous witch and wizard thus their costumes became famous as well. There isn’t any costume party, whether Halloween or ordinary fantasy themed ones, that did not have at least one guest who came in a wizard’s costume.

Because of the costume’s popularity many costume stores started coming out with imitations of Harry Potter’s costume. You can even find them now on the internet. You can order them on line and have them delivered right at your doorstep. But if you do not want to spend much or you want to be more creative you can just improvise. Here are some tips that you can follow.

1. Buy a thick, round rimmed glasses. You can choose one with lenses but without grade or you can also opt to just buy one without lenses. If you remember, Harry’s glasses are broken so you can put a clear tape in between the two glass frames of yours to make it look more like Harry’s.
2. Style your hair like Harry’s. Well technically you would need to mess up your hair if you want it to look like his hair. You can use hair mouse or hair gel to make the messed up look stay. If your hair is short buying a wig may be in order.
3. Create a lightning scar on your forehead. You can use theatrical make up or you can simply borrow your mom’s dark pink lipstick.
4. Wear an orange sweat shirt with a wide red stripe across the chest. Partner this with jeans and sneakers if you want to copy his regular day to day clothes. This Harry Potter costume by the way will not be complete without the scarlet scarf so go grab one and wrap it around your neck. If you want the more formal look of Harry, get a black graduation gown.
5. Don’t forget your wand as you cannot perform spells without it.

To have a Harry Potter costume for a party is not difficult. You can simply buy them in costume stores, order them over the internet or you can improvise and make your own.
