Gryffindor, Harry Potter Home When in Hogwarts

by Karolina on September 4, 2011

Hogwarts Castle is the school of magic for all wizard and witch students. In this school, they will manage to learn how to use their magic and use them to do good deeds. Newcomers in Hogwarts will basically be assigned a “house” based on his/her character and personality. Gryffindor, Harry Potter ‘s house in Hogwarts, was assigned to him when he first entered the school. It is in this home that he became closer to the other protagonists of the movie series, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, as well as Ginny Weasley, Ron’s sister who later became the love interest of Harry.

There are actually four of these homes and each one was named after past Hogwarts students who have made great names for themselves. They are Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor, Harry Potter belonged to the latter, as you already know. The excitement of most of their early student lives lie on the competitions made between the students in each house, including the Quidditch games and other events that will ultimately give the winning house the prestigious House Cup. As already known to many fans, Gryffindor got the cup for the valiance and skills of Harry Potter and his friends, Ron and Hermione.

Professor Minerva McGonagall is the headmistress of Gryffindor, Harry Potter owed from her his first ever impressive broomstick which made it possible for him to win the Quidditch cup, and later the House Cup. It was actually given by Dumbledore through Professor McGonagall. The Gryffindor house values bravery, courage, chivalry and sheer nerve in dealing with challenges. It is the Slytherin house that is the main rival of the Gryffindor house. Slytherin’s head is Professor Severus Snape and in this house belonged many children of Voldemort’s allies including Draco Malfoy, Harry’s nemesis and Malfoy’s sidekicks, Vincent Grabbe and Gregory Goyle. Each house is represented by a combination of color; Gryffindor is represented by red and gold. The common room of the Gryffindor house is located at the highest towers of the Hogwart’s castle. You can enter it from the east wing’s seventh floor and it is guarded by The Fat Lady dressed in pink. A password is needed for a student to be able to enter the house.
