A Peek into Harry Potter Wii Games

by Karolina on December 25, 2011

Nintendo Wii is well known for being revolutionary in its time, what with the nunchuk control and games that run the gamut of every known gaming genre and beyond. So for fans of the book and movie series, Harry Potter Wii games are something to look forward to. But since the release of the gaming console was a few movies too late to chronicle the entire series in a sequence of games, fans would have to settle for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince games.

The movie reincarnation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was quite grand, and a lot of elements (and plot twists) of the whole storyline was there. Transliterating the movie into a game involved a lot of aspects and factors to consider. In the end, the makers of the game decided to take advantage of the nunchuk and the breadth and depth of Hogwarts. Hogwarts is easily a wonderful place to explore, and actually getting to do the hand or wand gestures using the nunchuk to cast spells is a great experience—unfortunately those were the only things that were as magical as the book or the movie. Beyond that, most reviews would agree that the game was somewhat disappointing. The next Harry Potter Wii game, the Half-Blood Prince, offered something different in potion making and something improved in regard to making wand gestures using the nunchuk controls, but again, unfortunately, failed to capture the wonder and awe inspiring universe of J.K. Rowling. Well, perhaps being full of imagination and brimming with anticipation (and thus, high standards) for the games, one might rate them with prejudice.

It’s just that Harry Potter Wii games didn’t live up to the expectations they’d naturally set combining two huge names like that: Harry Potter and Nintendo Wii. All in all, they’re good additions to the collection of any Harry Potter fan, and they have their merits and good parts. They can even be an interesting pastime. But for those fans looking for everything the Potter world has to offer in the games, you might want to cordon off your excitement before you get disappointed.
