The 1st book in the Harry Potter series created a lot following which not surprisingly spilled over to the succeeding installments. It was a huge success that many young boys dreamed of becoming Harry Potter and many young girls also fantasized of becoming Hermione Granges. There are also those more ‘aggressive’ boys who dreamed of becoming Draco Malfoy. The released of the 2nd installment, Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets, added more fun especially because of the introduction of new characters like Tom Marvolo Riddle and Moaning Myrtle.

Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets revolves around Harry Potter’s second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In this book, the concept of an ‘heir of Slytherin’ was introduced creating fear to the young witches and wizards particularly those whose parents are not both magical. This idea became more ‘at home’ with Harry because one of his closest friends in Hogwarts, Hermione, falls under this group of witches. As a side story, one of the story’s antagonists, Lucius Malfoy showed how mush power he has. He was able to have the well loved Hogwart’s Headmaster Dumbledore suspended. As expected, Harry was there to save the day for Hogwarts, its professors, Dumbledore, students and most especially his friends.

The book was printed on July 2, 1998 in the United Kingdom and on July 2, 1999 in the United States. As soon as it was released it immediately propelled itself to the top of the bestsellers list. It toppled several books written by more established and famous authors.

Years after the book was published, it was discovered by many that the book is really a chamber of secret information critical to the development of the ending. After reading the 6th book you will find out that they have a lot of connections that are important to the ending like the Vanishing Cabinet and Ridlle’s diary.

The movie version of the book was released in 2002. Like the book, it was also eagerly awaited by fans that it became an instant blockbuster. It has received favorable responses from many critics especially in terms of the individual performances of the major characters. They have grown more accustomed to acting in front of the camera and therefore more confident in presenting the characters to the audience.

The Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets is one of the books in the series that has been earnestly anticipated and for good reason. Surely those who waited for it proved that it is indeed a book worthy waiting for.
